Vintage Clip Art- Meow!

My boyfriend and I are taking care of a stray cat we found wandering around the neighborhood. Yes, we are suckers for animals. Normally we wouldn't take another cat (we already have one and a half cats, one inside only and one only comes in to eat.) However, he was skin and bones and is just so sweet, loves to be held, and is always ready to cuddle. How could we resist?

However, the little guy wouldn't stop sneezing so I brought him in to our local vet. He was diagnosed with a respiratory infection and sent home without meds stating that it was a virus and would heal itself. When he wasn't better three weeks later, the vet gave me some meds and some chewy treats for his immune system. However, it has been another 5 days and he's not that much better. Is anyone out there familiar with this illness or had something similar with a cat? Could it be something else? Do cats get allergies? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!

Vintage Textiles

I have a huge love of vintage textiles. So much so that I have a small antique collection of quilts and vintage feed sacks. I just cannot pass up a good deal on a textile. In fact, I've even considered starting a blog just about vintage textiles.

Last weekend, I took a trip to one of my local Goodwill stores. I almost passed out when I saw this beauty in the blanket section for $4.99!!!

It's an old crazy quilt that has been hand embroidered and the quality is amazing! There are a few stains and places where the silk fabric has worn away but overall is in excellent condition. It has now a permanent spot over a chair in my bedroom where I can look at it daily and marvel about how much time it took to finish.

Here is the back of it where you can see all of the work involved. I'm in love!

Vintage Pattern- Birds Over the Water

This piece is a pattern pasted to the inside cover of an old book. I love this pattern and wish it could be a fabric. Maybe when I get some time I will see if I can duplicate it in Illustrator and print it using Spoonflower.

Vintage Illustration- Playing Sports

I was never much into playing sports when I was younger. I played a little soccer here and took some tennis lessons there. I was more of an artsy person. However, as I get older I find that taking rec classes at a community college is a lot of fun. But oh does my body hurt more.

Vintage Illustration- Sleeping Child

I picked up a new old Victorian child's reader today at an antique store. It is falling apart, pages coming out, but it has some of the cutest illustrations. Here is one of my favs.

Vintage Illustration

Kind of narcissistic that one would just sit down to stare at herself but I do love the large flower fan that she is holding in her hand.

Vintage Paper Dolls- Ballet Dancers

I recently acquired Irena and the rest of her ballet crew from an auction. I didn't know how cute they would be until I actually held them and immediately fell in love. They are an awesome 7.5 inches tall and each one has three to four different outfits to dress them in.

If you would like to see more ballet dancers (there are actually 8 total), I've painstakingly scanned them, color corrected them and put them into a PDF document so that you can print them at home to play with and use. Just visit the link here.

Vintage Advertisement- Lawn Tennis

I'm so excited! I decided last minute this weekend to sign up for tennis lessons at a local community college. I took lessons as a child but haven't played in about 15 years. Hopefully I'm not too rusty! I thought this vintage advertisement from my Delineator was appropriate.

Vintage Illustration- Flowers

Today was a great weather Friday! It actually rained lightly and the temperature dropped below 100 degrees. It was our first day that was below 100 degrees in months. Fall is coming!

Antique Victorian Trade Card- Red Finch

Here is today's image: a pretty little red finch trade card by Arm and Hammer.

On a side note: Yesterday, my half-brother was driving on the freeway and took this amazing shot. I realize this isn't at all vintage related but it was too amazing not to share.Yes, that is a real person in the back of a trailer, holding onto a fridge on the FREEWAY. Seriously, what is he thinking?!?

Victorian Trade Card- Ready for Rain

Boy I wish it would rain here! It's been a few months since we've seen a good downpour. But maybe that's asking for too much here in the Arizona desert. Maybe I should just wish for temperatures that are below 100 degrees.

Vintage Trade Card- Morning Glories

Taking some time out to smell the morning glories. For those in the US, I hope you all are able to take some time off on this Labor day and smell some flowers!

Vintage Photograph- Industrial Building

I was super excited this week to get a link to this cute collage made by Tania, a viewer here on The Vintage Moth. She used my sailor boy image in her design. Thanks for sharing Tania! You can view her blog, Wild@Heart here.

Anyway, here is today's image of an antique photograph of an industrial building. Have a great weekend everyone!

I really like the image at the bottom so I've enlarged it to show you the great detail.
